The Express Entry system is an online immigration application system used by the Canadian government to manage and process applications for permanent residence from skilled workers. Launched in January 2015, the system aims to streamline the immigration process and quickly respond to Canada’s labor market needs.
Candidates in the Express Entry pool are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The CRS is a points-based system that evaluates candidates based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and other criteria.

These streams are aligned with the Express Entry system. Candidates create an Express Entry profile and indicate their interest in a specific province or territory.
Enhanced PNP streams are linked with the federal Express Entry system. When a province or territory nominates a candidate under an enhanced stream, the candidate receives an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, which virtually guarantees an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in the next Express Entry draw.
While the specific requirements vary by province, general requirements often include:
– Relevant work experience in a NOC skill type 0, A, or B job.
– Education requirements can vary. Some streams require a diploma, degree, or specific credentials.
– Meet minimum language proficiency requirements, typically demonstrated through standardized tests like IELTS or TEF.
– A demonstrated intention to reside in the nominating province or territory.
– Some streams require a valid job offer from an employer in the province.
– Connections can include previous work or study in the province, family ties, or a job offer.
Before applying for Express Entry you will need to qualify by obtaining minimum 67 or more points on a 100 point scale system.

In January 2015, the Canadian government launched a new electronic immigration system that offers express entry to Canada for skilled and qualified immigrants.
The new Express Entry program will manage applications for permanent residence for immigrants who can fill jobs where there is a lack of available skilled Canadian workers. (View LMIA information for a related topic as well.)
Determining whether you can apply under the Express Entry System can be confusing, but here are some of the basics.
According to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), Express Entry is a system put in place to “manage applications for permanent residence under these federal economic immigration programs.” These economic immigration programs include the Federal Skilled Workers Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canada Experience Class.
Requirements for eligibility vary depending on the class you wish to apply under, though for all programs you must be legally admissible to Canada and be intending to live in a province or territory other than Quebec. Candidates also have to achieve a minimum score on the Comprehensive Ranking System. Points can be scored based on age, education, language ability, certifications, and Canadian and non-Canadian work experience.
Express Entry applicants can bring their spouse or common-law partners and dependent children with them to Canada. You must claim the family members you want to bring with you to Canada on your Express Entry application.
